glMenu Version 2.1 Released

glMenu v2.0 is now even better. An improved and easier to theme CSS has now been adopted as well as a number of enhancements to the underlying code to provide more flexibility and control over the menu's generated.

Take a look at the Web Resources menu in the site header on this page for an example of a dropdown menu which then cascades into several flyout menu's. This is created by adding just one menuitem and then the plugin dynamically creates the menu based on your links plugins content. All of the default siteheader menus can be created by defining a menuitem of Core Menu type and select the option for headermenu. Thats it!, you now have all the configured header menu items displayed.

Don't want them across the top - create a submenu item and place the siteheader menuitem under the submenu. You can still create individual url type menuitems and create the menu to look the way you want.

Current glMenu 1.x or 2.0 sites just need to replace the files no database update. You can run the plugin update which just changes the registered version. There is now no public_html/glmenu directory or files.

Forum Version 2.6 Final Released

The 5th and final release candidate of the forum project version 2.6 has just been released. It's been a few months of work and I appreciate the testing and feedback by the community. I'm sure there are a few remaining issues but it's been well tested over the past few months.

I've included a summary of the changes and you can refer to the plugin which includes a txt file outlining all the changed files.

There are no database changes so all that should be required is to replace the changed files or complete directories. Existing sites running a previous RC release do not need to run any upgrade/update - just replace all the plugin files.

glMenu Version 2.0 Released

Geeklog Topics

The popular glMenu plugin is now available to create pure CSS only dynamic menus for your site. The menus used on this site are no longer using the Milonic version of glMenu which uses Javascript. The menus are now CSS only. Over the past few months, it has been tested on over 50 sites and the CSS has been tweaked and improved. You will notice for example, that you can move your mouse off a submenu menuitem by up to 20pixels and the submenu does not hide (collpase).

This has several advantages:
  • Don't need the Milonic Library which had to be licenced from milonic
  • Menu content should be more easily indexed by search engines since the content is in the page
  • Less overhead - large menu's in v1.x created extra page load time that was noticeable on some sites
  • Better compatibility with existing GL menus

Much appreciation to Stu Nicoles of cssplay for his great CSS techiques

The glMenu plugin key feature is the online menu administration that allows you to easily build and maintain the side block menu and header menu.

Integrated Core Menu's and custom dynamic menus allow you to easily maintain your site menus.

Both versions will continue to be supported as some sites will want to use the more advanced layouts that Milonic can support.
